IM Max Illingworth – 2014 Australian Chess Champion

After winning the final round of the tournament, IM Max Illingworth became the 2014 Australian Chess Champion finishing on 8 points, half a point clear of his nearest competitors.

The most prestigious event on the Australian Chess calendar; the 2014 Australian Chess Championships were held at the Springvale Town Hall, Springvale, Victoria, between the 2nd - 11th January 2014. The event attracted over 190 entrants and featured many of the country's strongest chess players, a GM from Russia and Vietnam and a WGM from Indonesia. The 2014 Championships comprised of 4 different events; Australian Championship, Reserves, Challengers and Blitz Championships with over $13,000 in prizes.
